314. Who can do IV Hydration?

Under current Texas statute, elective IV hydration must be ordered by a physician, or a PA or APRN acting under adequate physician supervision.  The administration of the IV Hydration must be by a licensed professional nurse or higher-level licensee.  Texas Occupations code 172 provides for the delegation by a physician for the acts of prescribing, ordering, or administering elective intravenous therapy to certain medical professionals acting under adequate physician supervision.
